EU Harmonised Guarantee Notice for Online Sellers (from 27 September 2026)

If you sell goods to consumers in the EU, you must display the harmonised notice on the legal guarantee of conformity from 27 September 2026. Its text and design are fixed by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960 (Annex I), adopted under Directive (EU) 2024/825. Who has to display the harmonised notice?

Traders selling goods to consumers. The notice reminds buyers of the minimum legal guarantee of conformity they already have under EU law. It is not a new guarantee you give — it is standardised information about an existing right. Business-to-business sales are not the target of this notice.

Where do online sellers have to show it?

On your website, as a general reminder, shown in colour in the prescribed format. In a physical shop it goes in a prominent place. Law-firm guidance summarising the regulation stresses that traders may not use their own wording or design variations (Noerr).

If you sell through Etsy, Amazon or eBay, the duty still rests with you as the trader. We could not verify how every marketplace implements the notice for third-party sellers, so check your listings and ask the platform's seller support if it is missing.

Can I design my own version or translate the text myself?

No. The notice is fully harmonised: prescribed text, elements, colours, QR code and links. Download it from the official Commission publication and use it unchanged. A self-made "legal guarantee" banner does not replace it.

When may I use the GARAN durability label?

Only when the producer voluntarily offers consumers a commercial guarantee of durability that is free of charge, covers the entire good and lasts more than two years. Then the harmonised label (Annex II of the regulation) is shown directly next to the product. A retailer's own warranty, or a paid extended warranty, does not qualify. If you are unsure whether your manufacturer offers such a guarantee, do not display the label until they confirm it in writing.

How does this relate to GPSR?

They are separate obligations. The guarantee notice is consumer-contract information; GPSR (Regulation (EU) 2023/988) covers product safety information such as manufacturer, EU Responsible Person and warnings. Does the notice apply to handmade goods?

If you sell goods to consumers as a trader, assume yes. The rule concerns the consumer sale, not how the product was made.

Do I need the label if I already show the notice?

No. The notice is mandatory; the label is optional and only allowed under the producer-guarantee conditions above.
